Question

Two trains Mahamana Express and Suvidha Express of length 150 meters and 170 meters respectively are moving towards each other on parallel tracks at a speed of 60 km/hr and 70 km/hr respectively. In what time the trains will cross each other from the moment they meet?

  • 8.86 s
  • 8.84 s
  • 8.82 s
  • 8.80 s
Answer- A

Time =Distance/speed

In this problem, both the trains are moving so we will find the relative speed of the train. They are moving in the opposite direction, so the relative speed will be sum of their individual speeds.

Relative speed: (70+60) = 130 km/hr

Relative speed in m/s = 130 * 5/18 = 325/9 m/s

Distance covered is equal to the sum of the length of trains: 150 + 170= 320 meters

Time = 320*9/325 = 8.86 seconds
