Question

In a tea stall, 1 part of water and 4 parts of milk is used in making tea. X part of the mixture is taken out and compensated that with water, so it is quarter water and three-quarters milk. Find X?

  • 15/8
  • 13/6
  • 11/4
  • 9/2
Answer- A

Suppose the vessel initially contains 5 liters of the mixture.

Let x Litres of this mixture be replaced with water.

Quantity of water in new mixture = (1 - (x/5) + x) litre

Quantity of milk in new mixture = (4 - 4x/5) litre

(1 - (x/5) + x) = (4 - 4x/5)

(5+4x)/5 = (20-4x)/5

5 + 4x = 20 - 4x

8x = 15

x = 15/8.
