Question

Saroj has a solution that contains 40% saltwater. A part of the solution gets replaced by another solution which contains 20% saltwater, then the salt percentage becomes 28% after the mixing. What quantity of the solution is replaced?

  • 3/5
  • 3/4
  • 4/5
  • 2/5
Answer- A

first solution salt percentage is 40 and a part is replaced with another solution of salt percentage 20 then the mean percentage of saltwater becomes 28

by applying alligation rule

40% (first)                        20% (second)

                   28% (mean)

28-20 = 8%                       40-28 = 12

Ratio of first and second in the mixture = 8:12 = 2:3

Now, the quantity of saltwater replaced is equal to the quantity of the second saltwater added.

The quantity of saltwater replaced = 3/5
